PESHAWAR: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday stopped the relevant officers of local government and public health engineering departments from carrying out recruitments and developmental works in the National Assembly constituency NA-45 (Kurram-I) where polling for the by-elections will be held on Oct 30.

In this regard, the district election commissioner, Kurram, Abdul Rauf Khan, who is also district monitoring officer (DMO), issued separate orders to the assistant director local government and rural development department, and the executive engineer of the Public Health Engineering Department, Kurram, informing them about the ECP’s code of conduct for the by-elections under which making any appointments, posting transfers and launching development schemes were prohibited till holding of the polls.

NA-45 was one of the four National assembly constituencies of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where polling for by-elections was scheduled on Oct 16, but the ECP postponed it and has now issued a notification for holding the polls in this constituency on Oct 30.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan has been contesting for the NA-45 Kurram seat besides Jamil Khan of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl, Sher Mohammad Khan of Jamaat-i-Islami and several independent candidates.

A total of 198,618 voters, including 111,349 men and 87,269 women, are eligible to exercise their right to vote in this constituency.
