Comics are fun and easier to read than regular books. Comics sometimes become extremely appealing to children as they have strong visuals and are often more focussed on the plot and characters, with very little to read. So the site being reviewed is about not reading comics, but making comics, the easy way at www.makebeliefscomix.com.

Makebeliefcomix supports the creation of comics in 14 different languages. Sadly, you won’t find Urdu in it, but at least there is Arabic in the list. The site is also free, and simple enough for even younger users.

As you open the site, you will find it cluttered with a number of different-sized fonts and a related ad in the middle. This may be a bit of disappointment to many, but the variety of templates, characters and features will definitely make you create your very own comic in just a matter of minutes.

So select any section that interests you the most from the main menu given at the top. The sections include ‘create comix’, ‘comic starters’, ‘printables’, ‘family fun’, ‘writing’ etc. There is literally a huge variety of templates, characters and features to choose from. You can even have prompts, so if you are interested in making comics but don’t have any specific idea in mind, you can spend a few minutes on the ‘comix starters’ page and get an amazing idea to start your comic with.

So choose any of the blank ‘comix’ templates and fill it with characters, write the dialogues in speech and thought bubbles/balloons, add background and objects. Your job is simply to use your rich imagination to fill in the blank panels. After they are completed by you, they can be printed for a family portfolio of art or emailed to relatives and friends. Just pick the number of frames you want to use, you can create comics with up to 18 panels.

After you have finished making the comics, save it and the website offers you to build your own ‘Comic Art Portfolio’ by saving your comic strips online with the site. Click on ‘Sign in to save online button’ on ‘Create comix’! page, or by printing or emailing your comics to yourself to include in your own personal portfolio.

According to the site creator, MakeBeliefsComix is for people of all ages who like to play and explore, including youngsters and their parents; students and teachers; business executives, social workers — in short everyone!
