GWADAR: The bodies of four people who were crushed after a mudslide struck a picnic spot in Jiwani were yet to be recovered even after the passage of 36 hours.

At least five people, including a child, were buried after a landslide struck the picnic spot while they were fishing near the coast on Sunday.

Rescue teams managed to recover the body of a six-year-old and the operation to recover the remaining victims continued throughout Monday.

Officials said the effort has been stopped as darkness sat in and it will restart on Tuesday.

Rescue teams of the army and navy also took part in the operation along with officials of the Gwadar district administration. However, their efforts were impeded due to high tides.

“Rescue teams continued their efforts throughout the day but boulders were huge and heavy machinery and cranes were needed to remove them,” Gwadar Deputy Commissioner Ezzat Nazeer said.

Hundreds of people, including family members of the victims, were present at the site.
