RAWALPINDI: Relatives and friends of a 16-year-old boy, who was shot dead over a petty issue in Chaklala, staged a protest by placing his coffin on the Grand Trunk (G.T.) Road in front of Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi Bench on Wednesday.

Long queues of vehicles on both sides of the blocked G.T. Road and on nearby roads were visible for more than an hour. However, the demonstration was called off when senior police officers arrived on the scene and assured the protesters that the alleged murderers would be apprehended shortly.

Three persons have been accused in the murder case registered with the Airport police by Liaquat Zulfiqar, a resident of Eastridge Colony.

According to the first information report (FIR), Liaquat and his brother Javaid were present in their house when their cousin Mohammad Danish visited them. He said Danish informed him that some people were blocking their way by erecting a wall in the street. He said all of them went outside and started negotiations with these people.

He further said after talking for a while, the suspects quickly brought weapons from their house and opened fire on them besides using abusive language.

Danish sustained an injury and died on the spot while Liaquat was injured. The suspects managed to escape.

On Wednesday, relatives and friends of the deceased blocked G.T. Road by placing his body on the road and asked police to arrest those responsible for the murder.

Meanwhile, a 25-year-old man was shot dead allegedly by his rivals in Malik Colony, Girja Road on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Imran, 26, and he was shot over an old enmity. The body of the victim was removed to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for postmortem.
