BAJAUR: Students of government degree collage, Zoorbandar, in Nawagai tehsil here on Monday protested against the shortage of teachers and absence of science and computer laboratories in the institution.

They blocked the main Khar-Nawagai Road for about two hours, chanting slogans in favour of their demands. The protesting students were also holding placards inscribed with their demands.

They said that the college had long been facing shortage of teachers, but the provincial authorities were not filling the vacant posts.

The students claimed that all the eight posts of science subject teachers were lying vacant, imperiling their future. They pointed out that about 4,000 students were enrolled in the college.

The students assailed the higher education department for not meeting the shortage of teachers and providing other facilities to the college.

The students claimed that senior officials of the higher education department, during a visit to the college last year, had promised to fill the vacant posts of teachers and provide the missing facilities in the college by the end of June this year, but to no avail.

The students ended the road blockage after a team of the district administration officials met with their leaders and assured them to take up their issues with the higher education department.
