ISLAMABAD: As many as two dozen policemen were dismissed from the force on Tuesday over their absence from special duty.
The personnel had been deployed at different spots – some inside the Red Zone –in connection with the long march of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).
Officials of the capital police said those who were dismissed were constables and head constables. These officials were found missing from their duty points and as a result, senior superintendent of police (operations) dismissed them, the officials said, adding that even those whose services were terminated were not aware of the punishment awarded to them as their dismissal order was given verbally over the phone.
The officials said those who were dismissed might file an appeal against the punishment to deputy inspector general of police (DIG) operations.
When contacted, the public relations officer (PRO) for police said he could not comment on it, adding that he would ask another official for comments. However, he did not respond.
