LAHORE: A large number of employees of the Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) staged a sit-in outside the Lahore Press Club, demanding implementation of disparity allowance.

They were carrying placards and banners inscribed with their demand for implementation of 25pc and 15pc disparity allowances.

One of the protesters, Zubair Farooq, said the workers from all over the province had gathered there and won’t end the sit-in till acceptance of their demand. “All the government employees were given disparity allowance, except Tevta employees,” he deplored.

He said the employees had announced a strike in all Tevta educational institutions of the province and won’t resume their duties till issuance of a notification for the acceptance of their demands.

A government team led by MPA Hanif Pitafi held negotiations with the protesters in the evening, pledging issuance of a notification for 15 percent disparity allowance and asking them to end the sit-in.

However, the protesters were continuing with the sit-in till the filing of this report at 10pm, saying they did not receive the notification yet.
