PESHAWAR: The Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Mashhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mines and Agriculture (MCCIMA) on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding to further enhance trade and economic relations between Pakistan and Iran.

The MoU was signed by SCCI president Mohammad Ishaq and Iranian Consul General in Peshawar, Hamid Reza Ghomi, on behalf of Eng Gholam Hossein Shafee, head of MCCIMA, at a meeting held here, according to statement.

SCCI senior vice-president Shahid Hussain, vice-president Ejaz Khan Afridi, and Hossein Maliki, first consul general/commercial attaché, Iranian Consulate, were also present.

As per the agreement, both sides would make concerted efforts to further improve Pakistan-Iran mutual trade and economic ties, establish close contacts between business communities of both the countries, launch joint ventures, organise trade exhibitions, seminars, conduct research and exploit potential investment opportunities.

Hamid Reza Ghomi said the agreement between SCCI and MCCIMA would set a new direction for Pakistan-Iran mutual trade and economic relations.

SCCI president Mohammad Ishaq described the agreement as a milestone in opening new avenues of investment between the two countries. He said modalities would be framed in consultation with the business communities of Iran and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to remove hurdles in bilateral trade.
