LAKKI MARWAT: An elderly man was shot dead in Gandi Umar Chikar area of Lakki Marwat on Sunday.

Police said Abdul Aziz, 55, was watering fields when two men came there and opened fire, killing him on the sport. They said another man, who was in the area to catch birds, was injured in the attack.

Ikramullah, a son of the deceased, told the police that he was ploughing his fields with a tractor while his father was busy watering adjacent fields when two attackers appeared on the scene and shot his father dead. He identified the attackers as Hazrat Umar and Mohammad Rauf.

“A man, later identified as Fazal Rahim, was injured,” he added.

The Lakki Marwat police registered a case against the alleged killers and began investigation.

ROAD PROJECT: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s Lakki Marwat president Johar Mohammad Khan Advocate inaugurated a road project in Dallokhel area on Sunday.

The six-kilometre road linking Dallokhel, Abakhel and other localities with Tajazai-Lakki Road would be built at a cost of Rs120 million.

Speaking at the function, Mr Johar said developing backward areas was among top priorities of the provincial government. He thanked Chief Minister Mahmood Khan for sanctioning the road project and asked the contractor to ensure its quality and timely construction.

The PTI chief said the provincial government had also approved a project to rehabilitate damaged water supply schemes in rural areas of the district.

He said work on solarisation of mosques and electrification schemes in Abbakhel and Dallokhel areas would start soon.

He also claimed the communication and works department would soon launch work on blacktopping of roads in Mela Mandrakhel and Land Ahmadkhel.
