KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Monday discharged Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader Subhan Sahil from a case pertaining to allegedly delivering a controversial speech against senior government functionaries.

Police had arrested Mr Sahil from his Gulshan-i-Iqbal residence on the night of Nov 6 for allegedly delivering an incendiary speech.

On Monday, the investigating officer produced the PTI leader before the magistrate to seek his physical remand for interrogation.

Opposing the IO’s request for remand, Mr Sahil’s counsel argued that the FIR had been lodged on serious allegations without obtaining prior permission from the federal or provincial governments.

The magistrate discharged Mr Sahil from the case for the time being subject to furnishing a personal bond in sum of Rs3 million. Police alleged Mr Sahil allegedly defamed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and intelligence agencies.
