EASIER ALTERNATIVE

EASIER ALTERNATIVE: The federal government has recently started work on the Bhara Kahu bypass road project. There is a two-lane road on either side passing through Bhara Kahu which can easily do what the new project is supposed to do. The only problem is that the road has been reduced to a single lane on each side due to encroachments.

It is more practical to remove the encroachments than to start a new project.

RECKLESS DRIVERS: Whatever Karachi has in the name of public transport is seriously deficient. The minibuses are usually overcrowded and passengers generally face the option of either continue waiting for an uncertain time or to sit atop, not in, the minibus which is in front of their eyes. This is a split-second decision they have to make every day, several times a day, and day after day. The drivers are as ignorant of traffic rules as they are of the misery of the passengers, treating the former with utter carelessness, and the latter with foul language.

A RISKY AFFAIR: The riskiest thing to do on a Karachi road, any road, is to cross it on foot. Many accidents occur every single day in the city involving individuals trying to cross a road. Recently, I witnessed one such accident in which a woman was hit by a speeding car. The impact actually threw the poor soul pretty high in the air. Luckily, she survived, but suffered serious injuries. The government should build more pedestrian bridges, and, of course, the people should use them.

DANGEROUS COUNTRY: American President Joe Biden recently called Pakistan a dangerous nation on account of its nuclear arsenal. There are some questions that may interest the Americans. Which country has used a nuclear weapon against another country? Which country may use nuclear weapons if it is in its interest?
