KHUZDAR: A tribal elder was killed and five others, including a Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader, were injured on Tuesday after their vehicle was targeted with a remote-control bomb near Khuzdar.

The police said the bomb exploded when PPP leader Abdul Latif Shahwani was travelling with tribal elder Abdul Ghani Bangulzai, who later died of his wounds in a Karachi hospital. Both were close associates of Nawab Sanaullah Zehri, a former chief minister also associated with the PPP.

The explosion occurred when the bomb, attached to the driving side door of the Land Cruiser, was detonated with a remote control near Chamrok chowk, Khuzdar’s senior superintendent of police, Javed Shah Gharsheen, told Dawn.

Police officials rushed to the site after the blast and shifted the injured to a hospital in Khuzdar. Mr Shahwani, a builder, and Mr Bangulzai were seriously injured and shifted to Karachi, hospital officials said.

Other injured people, also including passers-by, were identified as police constable Sadiq Mengal, Shafiullah Bajoi, Muhammad Akbar Bajoi and Zubair Ahmed.

The police have registered a case against unidentified assailants and launched an investigation into the incident.
