KOHAT: The paramedics association, Kohat, held a protest rally on Saturday against firing of 1,000 technicians of the expanded programme on immunisation (EPI), and threatened to stage a sit-in outside the Chief Minister’s House if they were not reinstated within 48 hours.

The protesters condemned the termination of technicians, who were employed through proper procedure last year. They said the sacked employees had not been paid salaries since November 2021.

The rally was led by the association’s president Rashid Bokhari. The protesters marched from Liaquat Memorial Hospital and converged at the Kohat Press Club. They were holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the provincial government.

The speakers demanded of the chief minister to intervene and save the livelihood of the families of the fired workers.

They said the workers were sacked at a time when they were waiting for payment of their withheld salaries.

The association’s president demanded of the director general health to immediately reinstate the technicians and clear their outstanding dues.

CATTLE VACCINATION: The livestock department has vaccinated hundreds of cattle and distributed free medicines among livestock keepers during field camps held in various villages of Orakzai district.

A statement issued here on Saturday said the livestock department held the camps in Bulandar, Dana Khula, Ublan and Spin Darra areas.

The tribesmen had pointed out widespread diseases and deaths of their cattle at an open kutchery called by deputy commissioner Adnan Fareed Afridi recently. Afterwards, Mr Afridi had directed holding the field camps to vaccinate the cattle heads against the deadly diseases.
