Elections in Ghotki, Kashmore soon

SUKKUR, Dec 29: The acting chief election commissioner of Pakistan, Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, has said that dates of local government elections in the Ghotki district and re-polling on NA-210 (Kashmore) will be announced in due course of time. Talking to newsmen here on Thursday, Justice Dogar said the Supreme Court had given six-week’s time to the Sindh government for completing the work about delimitations of existing number of union councils of the Ghotki district.

Five weeks have already passed and as soon as remaining work is completed, the election commission will announce the schedule for local government elections for the district.

Justice Dogar expressed his satisfaction on smooth conduct of the last phase of the local government elections which got completed with the holding of elections of the district and taluka naib nazims on Wednesday.

He said he had received reports about Sukkur district where the election for district and taluka naib nazims was held in a peaceful manner.

He said that election commission had declared the result of the by-election of NA-210 as null and void after receiving reports of massive irregularities in the constituency.

He said date for re-polling would be announced soon.
