PENSION WOES

Published November 14, 2022

PENSION WOES: I am a nonagenarian widow and have been striving to have my pension restored that has remained suspended for the last three months. The relevant officials are completely immune to my miseries, and they have so far failed to resolve my issue. I sent all the required documents along with my application to the District Accounts Officer in Bannu on Sept 2. Upon receiving no response, I registered complaints through mail and telephone again, but all in vain. Will someone listen to a widow who solely depends on the pension of her late husband to survive?

EXAM BLUES: The Balochistan Public Service Commission (BPSC) finally announced the date of the much-awaited Provincial Civil Service (PCS) examination. Much to candidates’ dismay, the exam is spread over almost a month, and the sole exam centre is Quetta, which means serious hassle for candidates from other parts of the province. The BPSC should reconsider such decisions. Even if it is not possible this year, it should take a better, more logical decision henceforth.

THE WRONG FORUM: During the last session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Indian foreign minister said his government was “rejuvenating a society pillaged by centuries of foreign attacks and colonialism”. His words, if read in their due context, alluded to the Muslim conquests of Sindh. On such a platform, countries try to project a softer image, but India used it shamelessly.

MISSING TEXTBOOKS: The Sindh government has recently recruited a number of teachers at various tiers of the education system, and the inductees are teaching with zeal and interest, but what is killing the whole exercise is the lack of textbooks. Without access to textbooks, it is just about impossible to take the academic activity forward. The government should sort out the matter rather urgently.
