LAHORE, Dec 29: Gujranwala, Sargodha and Vehari also cruised into the quarterfinals of the Punjab U-17 boys Inter-district hockey championship on Thursday.

A solitary goal by Adnan Ahmed helped Gujranwala eliminate Sialkot 1-0.

Sialkot missed out on four short-corners while Gujranwala wasted only one penalty-corner.

Adnan gave Gujranwala an early lead when he scored a field goal in the 8th minute which remained intact till the final whistle.

Four goals by Muhammad Fayyaz enabled Vehari to make it to the last eight in great style, blasting Narowal 10-4 after leading 4-0 in the first half.

He scored in the 4th, 12th, 40th and 43rd minutes. Haroon Zaheer chipped in two goals in the 10th and the 28th minute.

Mohammad Shahbaz (33rd), Habib Hasan (38th), Tauseef (47th) and Badar Ihsan (59th) were the other scorers.

Three goals by Imran Abbas propelled Sargodha to 6-1 win over Khanewal after leading 2-0 at the interval.

He struck in the 3rd, 51st and the 55th minute. Ikram (13th ), Haider Ali (35th) and Rashid (46th minute) scored a goal each.

For the losers, Imran Ahmed scored the consolation goal in the 37th minute.

In other matches, three goals by Asif Nawaz (16th , 26th, 43rd minute), and two each by Khalid Javed (47th, 49th) and Mohammad Shahbaz (38th, 42nd) helped Mianwali beat Lodhran 9-1.

The other scorers were Rabnawaz (5th) and Saeed (47th). For Lodhran Sajid scored a goal in the 16th minute.

Three goals by Rizwan and two each by Fawad Ahmed and Rashid Mehmood helped Bahawalpur thrash Rajanpur 8-0. Rizwan scored in the 23rd, 32nd and 59th minute. Fawad banged home in the 7th and 39th minute. Rashid slammed in the 3rd and 29th minute.

Shahbaz Ahmed added a goal in the 42nd minute.

Two goals by Basit Ali steered Muzaffargarh to 3-1 win over Nankana Sahib.

He scored in the 12th and the 18th minute while Arsalan struck a goal in the 52nd minute.

For the losers, Muhammad Yaqoob scored a goal in the 60th minute.

Sheikhupura beat Jhang 2-1. Seemab (41st) and Waqas Umar (45th) shared the scoring honours for the winners.

The losers scored through Akhtar in the 5th minute.

Multan got a walkover against Mandi Bahauddin.

Friday quarterfinals: Toba Tek Singh vs Gujranwala; Lahore vs Bahawalpur; Faisalabad vs Vehari; Okara vs Sargodha.
