LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly on Monday adopted a resolution against the assassination attempt on the life of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan and torture of Senator Azam Swati.
In the session, the resolution chided the federal government for not constituting a judicial commission to investigate both matters. It also urged the chief justice of Pakistan to form a judicial commission under him into the matter so that facts could come forth.
The House also adopted another resolution condemning the brutal murder of senior journalist Arshad Sharif in Kenya and demanded its fair investigation and those involved in this heinous crime should be brought to justice.
Mr Khan suffered bullet injuries in the right leg on Nov 3 when a couple of gunmen fired a volley of bullets at him and others standing on a container-mounted truck in Wazirabad where he was leading the long march against the Shehbaz administration to press it for early polls.
The House also approved the Punjab Protection of Women against Violence (Amendment) Bill 2022 which was earlier rejected by the governor after raising certain objections.
Governor Balighur Rehman proposed to widen the definition of domestic violence in the bill, while the current bill had a restricted definition. He said that by widening the scope of domestic violence definition, women could be given better access to justice against violence.
