LACK OF RESOURCES

Published November 19, 2022

LACK OF RESOURCES: The District Headquarters (DHQ) Teaching Hospital in Panjgur, the only facility of its kind in the area, is suffering from lack of resources as it is woefully understaffed and overburdened. Resultantly, patients do not receive the care they need. It is not a ‘human’ problem because all members of staff are working as they should; it is a human resource problem. The place needs manpower. The government should realise the gravity of the situation and do the needful forthwith.

POSSIBLE SOLUTION: Karachi has nothing of international standard that is generally associated with large cities except the size of its population. The road infrastructure and commute services are lagging decades behind its counterparts elsewhere in the world, even in the region. The resultant chaos in the streets across the city is frustrating where even ambulances are seen getting routinely stuck. The government should allow the ambulances to use BRT tracks wherever available so that patients may not have to suffer owing to mismanagement.

AIR POLLUTION: I am a resident of Eden Housing Society located on Multan Road. While being on the highway at the entry point of Lahore is considered an advantage, the air pollution emanating from heavy vehicles is destroying the environment in the area. The parks and wide roads were meant to provide pollution-free living, but there is nothing but pollution in the air. The authorities should have proper environmental assessment before granting permission to housing societies.

COUSIN MARRIAGES: This is with reference to the letter ‘Seriously flawed storylines’ (Oct 24), which talked about cousin marriages resulting in medical complications in the next generation.

The content creators active in the showbiz industry should bear this reality in mind while producing any work as people tend to get influenced by what they watch on their television screens.
