LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi on Sunday inaugurated the 10-storey new block of the Mother & Child Care at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.

Punjab Health Minister Prof Yasmeen Rashid, Fatima Jinnah University vice chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Masood Gondal were also present there besides heads of other government teaching institutes of the city.

On the occasion, the CM also announced to install a robotic surgery system at the Mayo Hospital saying that the scope of robotic surgery centre will further be expanded.

“The robotic surgery centre will be given status of training centre at the Mayo Hospital”, he said.

The CM said the new IT board system has been provided to stop kidnap of infants from the state-run hospitals of the province.

Under the system, alarms will start ringing if anyone takes out the infants out of the hospitals without permission.

The CM ordered to launch an operation to remove the encroachments on a land near the Mayo Hospital.

He directed the authorities concerned to make substitute arrangements for those persons being evicted from the encroachments.

He ordered to adopt micro u-technology to dispose of medical wastes. He said that the incinerators already present in the hospitals to dispose of the medical wastes will be shifted to the tehsil hospitals.

The shortage of beds in the children hospitals will be addressed so that one patient can be treated on a bed.

An underground path will be constructed to link one part of Jinnah Hospital with the other part.

“We are doubling the capacity of the Punjab Institute of Cardiology Lahore by further establishing emergency blocks”, Mr Elahi said.

The projects to construct more facilities at the Services Hospital Lahore will be launched and the work on 400-bed emergency block of the Jinnah Hospital will soon be started.About the newly inaugurated block of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, he said latest anti-bacterial paint and latest medical equipments have been installed in the operation theatres of Mother and Child block.

The government would take the capacity of the 10-storey Mother and Child block to 550-bed which would house emergency, pre- and post operative wards, ICU, functional operation theatres, the CM said.

Parvez Elahi also inspected various facilities of the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital including the induction room, delivery room, pre-operative room and operation theatres.
