PESHAWAR: Unidentified assailants gunned down a senior lawyer on Cherat Road in Nowshera district on Saturday evening.

The deceased, Sajid Waseem Khattak, was a senior member of Pabbi tehsil bar.

The deceased was returning home when the attackers riding a motorcycle ambushed his vehicle.

Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council (KPBC) condemned the incident and announced to observe strike today (Monday) in Peshawar, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Khyber, Mohmand, Kohat, Hangu, Kurram and Orakzai districts.

In a press release, KPBC vice-chairman Mohammad Ali Jadoon and its executive council chairman Mohammad Ilyas Khan demanded of the provincial police chief to arrest the killers at the earliest.

They also announced to convene a meeting of All Pakistan Bar Councils vice-chairmen on Nov 26 to discuss the issue of rising cases of violence against lawyers.

Meanwhile, the Peshawar police have arrested the alleged killer of a senior lawyer, Razaullah Khan.

A press release issued from the office of Capital City Police Officer, it was stated the suspect, identified as Jabir, who had been absconding after the attack on Nov 16, had visited his residence to get some important documents.

The deceased, who was attacked inside his chamber in Peshawar Cantonment, had expired at Lady Reading Hospital on Nov 18.
