ISLAMABAD: The government-owned social safety net, Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), provides health facilities and scholarships to thousands of children from poor families through Benazir Nashonuma and Benazir Taleemi Wazaif programmes.

Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety and BISP Chairperson Shazia Marri, in her message on the occasion of International Children’s Day, said the Benazir Income Support Programme helped thousands of poor people by providing scholarships to deserving families for their children’s education and health.

“Today (Sunday) on November 20, on the occasion of International Children’s Day, we should remember millions of those children who have been displaced by the recent floods and who are waiting for our help. We all should come stand together to help those suffering children. Today is the day to work together for the welfare of children,” Ms Marri said.

The minister said through Benazir Nashonuma Programme, sachets of vitamins and minerals were provided to mothers and children to help them get nutritious food and make them healthy.
