KOHAT: The police on Tuesday arrested a proclaimed offender and recovered a girl kidnapped by him some six months ago during an operation conducted in Chor Lakki area here.
The kidnapper, Ijaz Ahmed of Lower Dir district, had picked the girl from Ghorazai area of Gumbat tehsil.
District police officer Shafiullah Gandapur had ordered the operation on the basis of an intelligence report.
The action was led by DSP Gumbat Asif Shareef and SHO Fazal Mohammad.
Meanwhile, the Hangu police arrested a burqa-clad man while trying to smuggle nine kilogrammes of hashish from Kurram district to Kohat on Tuesday.
The police stopped a passenger coach at a blockade on the Kohat Road and seized hashish from a passenger, who was wearing a burqa, SHO Mehmood Alam Khattak said.
Separately, the police’s Ababeel Squad comprising 34 heavy bikes and 150 specially trained personnel laced with modern communication system has been launched in the district to check street crime and terrorism incidence.
SP operations Billa Ahmed while inaugurating the squad on Tuesday said it would play important role in providing a peaceful and safe environment to citizens. He said squad would patrol the city and its outskirts.
He said the Ababeel Squad would be directly connected to the command and control system. He said the squad members would work in two shifts.
PRISON VISIT: Special assistant to the chief minister for prisons, Mr Shafiullah on Tuesday visited the district jail.
He was accompanied by additional inspector general of jails Hameedur Rehman and jail superintendent Abdul Bari.
Mr Shafiullah promised to address the problems of inmates on a priority basis. The jail superintendent demanded relief from excessive loadshedding and installation of water filtration plant at the jail.
The CM’s aide also distributed appointment letters among the newly-inducted employees of the jail.
BAKERY SEALED: A team of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority on Tuesday sealed a bakery for not maintaining hygiene.
The team also checked food outlets in the streets and asked the owners to abide by the food laws.
