DHAKA: Shakib Al Hasan will return to the ODI fold for Bangladesh in the 16-man squad announced on Thursday for next month’s visit by India.
Shakib took a break from Bangladesh’s last two ODI series against West Indies and Zimbabwe but led the national side at the T20 World Cup in Australia.
Batsmen Najmul Hossain and Yasir Ali also returned to the ODI side, while batsman Mosaddek Hossain, spinner Taijul Islam and paceman Shoriful Islam have been left out.
India arrive in Bangladesh on Dec 1 for their first bilateral series there since 2015.
The first two ODIs will be held in Dhaka on Dec 4 and 7 while the third is at Chittagong on Dec 10, after which both sides will play two Tests.
Rain forced a draw in the only Test during India’s last visit to Bangladesh, while the hosts won that year’s ODI series 2-1.
INJURED JADEJA OUT
On Wednesday, India’s cricket board said all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of Bangladesh ODIs after failing to recover from a knee injury.
Jadeja misses out alongside uncapped left-arm quick Yash Dayal.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named fast bowler Kuldeep Sen and all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed as replacements for the ODIs.
“Dayal has a lower back issue and is ruled out of the series while Jadeja is yet to recover from his knee injury and will continue to be under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team,” said a statement.
They will be a part of the squad led by Rohit Sharma, travelling to Bangladesh. The ODIs in Bangladesh will be followed by two Tests starting on Dec 14 in Chittagong.
