RAWALPINDI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight from Sukkur to Islamabad made an emergency landing at Islamabad International Airport (IIA) on Wednesday night after the pilot gave a “mayday” call.

Spokesman for the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said that PIA flight PK632 from Sukkur to Islamabad made an emergency landing at the airport last night.

He said that the pilot gave a “mayday” call when the plane was at a distance of two nautical miles from the airport. After the emergency call was given, the airport authorities dispatched ambulances, fire tenders/engines and other emergency services.

However, the aircraft landed safely on the runway. The aircraft taxied to the parking bay on its own as its engine number two showed fire warning light during the flight. Consequently, the pilot shut down the engine as a precaution.

The plane landed safely while flying on one engine. As many as 54 passengers were on board, according to a statement issued by the CAA.

The medical test of the pilot will be conducted as per the prescribed standard operating procedures (SOPs).
