LAKKI MARWAT: The Pakistan Army personnel continued operation against terrorists in Pashan area of Lakki Marwat district on the second consecutive day on Saturday as gunship helicopters shelled suspected hideouts of militants, said a police official.
He said that Cobra helicopters took part in the operation and targeted the hideouts of terrorists in the rural locality.
A resident in Tajazai area said they saw three helicopters hovering over the area at midday.
“We watched the helicopters from our homes and heard the shelling on the hideouts of militants,” he said.
On Friday, two soldiers were martyred and two others, including a lieutenant, were injured when a group of terrorists attacked them in Pashan area.
The official said the security forces and police had cordoned off the area after the attack and search was underway for the attackers on Saturday.
After killing of six policemen in a gun attack in Kurram Par area last week, the terrorists had increased attacks against police and other law enforcement agencies in the southern district.
Two days ago, a group of insurgents attacked a police post in Manzar Faqeer area of the district, but the cops posted there had repulsed the attack.
EARLY POLLS SOUGHT: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf MPA Hisham Inamullah Khan has said that people of Lakki Marwat support their demand for early general elections in the country.
He was talking to mediapersons before leaving for Rawalpindi to take part in the ‘Haqeeqi Azadi’ march.
Lakki tehsil council chairman Shafqatullah Khan and Ghaznikhel tehsil council chairman Zeshan Khan were also present on the occasion.
