THATTA: People from different walks of life gathered at the mazar of eminent politician, historian and writer Rasool Bux Palijo in Munghar Khan Palijo village to attend a cultural event organised by his party, Awami Tehreek.
Speakers shed light on Sindh’s centuries-old culture and traditions which, they said, laid foundation of the around 5,000 years old Indus Valley civilisation.
They discussed the evolution that the civilisation has undergone over the centuries and also highlighted the great contribution made by luminaries to Sindhi literature and art, besides politicians of the past who played a key role in the uplift of Sindh and its people.
AT leaders, speaking to the audience, said that people like Rasool Bux Palijo, Ibrahim Munchi, Ibrahim Joyo, Sobho Gyanchandani and Sarvech Sujawali shouldered the responsibility of creating awareness among subjugated and suppressed masses of Sindh. Such leaders’ life-long struggles, through literature and political movements as well as social activities created awareness of a citizen’s constitutional rights among the masses, they said.
They said Rasool Bux Palijo was the first politician to have marshalled culture and politics so that people could get their legitimate rights.
The speakers included Sindhyani Tehreek (AT’s women wing) head Subhani Daheri, senior leader Lal Jarwar and Advocate Sajjad Hussain Mahesar.
They condemned settling of outsiders and illegal immigrants on Sindh’s soil in the name of housing projects, occupation of the province’s lands and islands for so-called mega projects and usurpation of Sindh’s resources by unauthorised entities and undeserving people. All this, they said, was leading to damage to Sindh’s centuries-old culture, and turning its population into a minority within the province.
The colourful event ended with cultural performances and tableaux through which glowing tribute was paid to renowned figures of Sindh.
