KARACHI: Residents of Gulshan-i-Iqbal may breathe a sigh of relief during the next rains in the city as the construction of one-kilometer-long storm water drain in Block 13-D is scheduled to be completed by year end.

He said following heavy rains he had requested the chief minister for the construction of Stock Exchange Nullah, City Nullah, Soldier Bazar Nullah and the drain at 13-D. “We started work on these four drains immediately on an emergency basis on Sept 16. The work would be completed on all drains by Dec 31.”

Administrator Murtaza Wahab, who inspected the work on 13-D drain, told Dawn that the one-km-long storm water drain project was launched on the complaint of the residents as the major part of the locality had submerged during the previous monsoon rains.

“With the completion of the project costing more than Rs150 million, the long-standing problem of sewage drainage in Gulshan-i-Iqbal will be solved,” he added.

The problem of drainage from the University Road to Gulshan-i-Iqbal would be solved with it, he added.
