KARACHI: Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested a man for allegedly murdering his wife by setting her on fire in their home in Orangi Town in the garb of an accident.

A police spokesperson said that Dua, 23, died of her burn wounds in Aziz Nagar on Wednesday. Her husband Javed Khaliq in his initial statement before the police claimed that she suffered burns when a fire accidentally broke out in the kitchen.

In the light of evidence and the post-mortem report, it was transpired that the fire was not an accident.

The police arrested the suspect on Thursday. During initial grilling, he “confessed” to have murdered his wife over some domestic dispute.

A case under Section 302 (premeditated murder) was registered against him on the complaint of the victim’s father at the Pakistan Bazaar police station.
