ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday restored former federal minister Faisal Vawda as senator and withdrew the victory notification of Senator Nisar Ahmad Khuhro.

The ECP, in line with orders of the Supreme Court, withdrew the recent notification de-seating Mr Vawda from the Senate, and restored the notification dated March 10, 2021, declaring him a returned candidate.

But all this will be a short-lived arrangement as Mr Vawda, under a commitment given to the Supreme Court, would resign, paving the way for fresh election.

Meanwhile, the ECP notified Syed Waqar Mehdi of the PPP as a returned candidate on a Senate seat from Sindh.

The seat fell vacant after the resignation of Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar of the same party.
