Madame Web’s new release date

In February 2022, it was announced that Dakota Johnson would be starring in Sony’s first-ever female-led superhero movie, Madame Web. Expanding their slate of Spider-Man-movies-without-Spider-Man further, Madame Web will follow the origins of one of the webslinger’s greatest allies.

This is a change of pace from the other Sony Marvel movies we’ve seen so far, because while Morbius, Kraven the Hunter, and Venom were all Spider-Man villains, Madame Web is far from it, with her clairvoyant powers and insight into the Spider-Verse giving her more in common with the likes of Doctor Strange and X-Men character Professor X.

The current release date for Madame Web is October 6, 2023.

New comic series The Ambassadors

Prolific comic book creator Mark Millar has a new addition to his Millarworld universe of creator-owned comics, The Ambassadors and it’s described as ‘Willy Wonka with superpowers’.

The Ambassadors centres on six characters in six different countries, in a world in which the superhuman genome has been cracked, and the scientist behind it is a Korean billionaire who builds the world’s first superhuman headquarters in Seoul and alerts the world that she will turn six ordinary people into super-people. This sparks a global competition for people who want to join a team that will be on call 24/7 for superhuman emergencies.

The Ambassadors will be published by Image Comics, with the first issue dropping in March 2023.

Avatar’s future sequels

A central component of Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water is the gorgeous planet of Pandora and the ways in which humans are attempting to exploit it, but, according to producer Jon Landau, Avatar 5 will see Zoe Saldaña’s Neytiri travelling to Earth.

While the debut film showcased some of the worst traits of humanity and their need to colonise and destroy other planets and cultures, the producer noted that the overall storyline will require Neytiri to witness a broader spectrum of humanity and civilisation for a better understanding of her partner Jake (Sam Worthington).

“Earth is not just represented by the RDA,” the producer pointed out. “Just like you’re defined by the choices you make in life, not all humans are bad. Not all Na’vi are good. And that’s the case here on Earth. And we want to expose Neytiri to that.” Avatar: The Way of Water is currently running in theatres.
