TAKING ADVANTAGE

TAKING ADVANTAGE: This is with reference to a photograph that appeared on the Metro pages (Nov 23), showing a freshwater main pipeline leaking. The repair work might take months or years to complete or even get started. I suggest the relevant department plant fruit-bearing and shady trees under the pipeline. The leakage will keep watering the trees and they will, surely, grow faster than the repair work which does not seem to be in the pipeline any time soon.

TRAINING COPS: In another fateful incident, a policeman lost his life recently, and the killer without any resistance fled the scene. One of the concerning points in this incident was the policeman’s position where he was standing close to the driver and happened to be in the killing range of the gun. The police training should be sophisticated as is the case in most countries.

When encountering a similar situation, the policemen call the drivers out of the cars with their hands raised above the shoulder.

EXPANDING BUS SERVICE: The Sindh government’s modern bus service initiative is a welcome step that has facilitated many a commuter across the city. However, there is a dire need for expanding the reach of such services to the residents of the remaining areas because they are still having to use the worn-out buses for their commute. It would be a great service that would be appreciated by one and all.

SELF-MEDICATION WOES: Most of the people in Pakistan resort to self-medication without a single thought about the possible consequences as they are unaware of the complications and the exact nature of their illness. As per an estimation, 53-63 per cent of people go for self-medication in Pakistan, leaving themselves vulnerable to further health complexities. Medical research has shown that self-medication can lead to bacteria-resistant illnesses.

The government needs to start a mass awareness campaign in this critical regard.
