Bus shelters

Published December 28, 2022

THIS is with reference to the photograph showing a bus stop on University Road in Karachi (Metro-South; Dec 26), and highlighting the need for urgent repairs and maintenance of such shelters. Sign Source Limited (SSL), in partnership with the Traffic Engineering Bureau, has installed 200 such shelters in Karachi and is responsible for their upkeep.

During the last few years, quite a few city areas, including the University Road, have been taken over by drug addicts, making thefts and damages a routine. We have filed more than 100 complaints in the last two years at various police stations, but the illegal activity has continued.

Besides, construction work related to the Red Line bus service has also affected traffic along the University Road, and a number of bus shelters are now being removed to facilitate the project work.

Despite the challenges, however, we are committed to our contractual obligations.
