MULTAN-VEHARI ROAD: The 90km road between Multan and Vehari is in a shambles. The road links not just the two cities, but has connections with several other major cities of the country. The farmers and dealers of the region use the road to buy and sell commodities, and suffer damages due to the poor condition of the road. Traders, too, are being affected as they have to take alternative routes that add to the cost of doing business. The Punjab government should take immediate steps to set things right.

UNFAITHFUL FRIEND: Smartphone has become a necessity for many, if not all. However, the device is turning out to be a snake in the grass because its excessive use is decreasing in-person communication skills and is increasing anxiety and depression. Also, smartphone usage has been linked with a rise in cases of cyberbullying and online harassment. The ease of accessing information and entertainment on the smartphone means people are less likely to engage in physical activities.

PAST AND PRESENT: The cultural roots of Sindh date back to around 5,000 years. Whenever anyone asks us about Sindh, we refer them to our past, which suggests that we have nothing in our modern history to showcase our pride. Our pride in our wonderful culture and people is well-placed, but we should also excel in our own lives and times to pay tribute to our ancestors and to keep their legacy alive.

PEDESTRIAN BRIDGES: The condition of pedestrian bridges in Karachi is horrible. Instead of preventing accidents, they have become a source of accidents due to poor infrastructure and its mismanagement. The iron railing of the bridges is mostly missing, and holes in the middle of the path make it a challenge for pedestrians to walk through them. To make matters worse, there are drug addicts and beggars narrowing the already narrow passage. It’s concerning.
