GUJRAT: A 13-year-old boy was shot dead by his brother (25) over exchange of harsh words at a barber shop of Chandala village of Daulat Nagar police precincts.

Reports said suspect Jameel Ali opened fire on his younger brother Ali Haider, leaving him dead at a barber shop where both had some altercation just before the firing.

The suspect fled the scene and police reached the spot and shifted the body to Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital for autopsy.

A team of crime scene unit collected forensic evidence.

Police have registered a case against the suspect under section 302 of Pakistan Penal Code on the report of Sadiq, the father of deceased, and started investigation.

convocation: The seventh convocation of the University of Gujrat (UoG) will be held at Hafiz Hayat Campus on Friday.

According to a press release issued by the university, Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi will be the chief guest at the ceremony.

Controller of Examinations Tanzila Qamar said participation in a full-dress rehearsal, which would take place on Hafiz Hayat Campus at 11am on Thursday (tomorrow), was mandatory for students.

Students will be provided transport from Gujrat city to Hafiz Hayat Campus on the rehearsal day.

The students intending to participate in the convocation for receiving their degrees may contact Deputy Controller Examinations Tauqeer Ashraf for more information.

Crime in Gujrat: The crime rate in the newly formed Gujrat division has significantly decreased since the region’s inception in September 2022.

Dr Akhtar Abbas, Gujrat Regional Police Officer, stated the data of registered crime in four districts of Gujrat for the first three months of 2022 was compared to the last three months of 2021 when these areas were part of the Gujranwala region.

According to the data analysis, there was a 12 per cent decrease in overall crime. Crime against persons decreased by 20.17 per cent, while crime against property decreased by 27:23pc. Crime under local and special laws increased by 10.09pc.

Gujrat district experienced a 45.20pc decrease in property crime. Similarly, crime against property in Mandi Bahauddin dropped by 25.30pc; crime against property in Hafizabad district remained constant; and crime against property in Wazirabad district decreased by 22.59pc.

The region saw 60 murders, compared to 74 murders reported during the same period in 2021.

Ten occurrences of dacoity were reported in 2022, compared to 19 cases in 2021. Similarly, 270 cases of robbery were reported in 2022, compared to 371 cases in 2021.
