Tasmanian devil mistaken for dog toy
A woman in Hobart, Australia got quite the “wild” surprise after mixing up her dog’s Tasmanian devil plush toy with a live devil.
Kirsten Lynch went to reach for what she thought was her pup’s trinket when it suddenly raced away. Lynch’s scream woke up her family who rushed to her. Lynch’s husband carefully escorted the Tasmanian devil out of their home using a broom.
“We were concerned that if she or he was cornered and scared, they would bite someone,” Lynch told the outlet. She believes the animal made its way into the house by following their family’s new puppy.
The Tasmanian devil is the world’s largest carnivorous marsupial, and can grow to around the size of a large house cat.
Newborn shares birthday with both parents
An Alabama hospital said a baby born there recently beat all odds to be born on the same day as both of her parents.
The Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children stated in a Facebook post that Cassidy and Dylan Scott welcomed daughter Lennon on December 18, giving her the same birthday shared by both of her parents.
The hospital said it was a “one in 133,000” chance of the mother, father and the baby to all be sharing the same birthday.
The post said Cassidy Scott had been admitted to the hospital December 17, but Lennon wasn’t born until 12:30 am on the 18th.
South Dakota student recreates university campus in Minecraft
South Dakota Mines student Jaxxen Cheney created a scale model of the university’s campus in Minecraft.
“I didn’t know the campus very well before I became a student. When I first arrived, I got lost all the time,” Cheney said in a news release. “I think this could be a great tool for incoming freshmen to explore the campus before they come to school.”
“The campus is constantly changing and so this will always be open for users to update and collaborate on the build,” Cheney said. “People can customise their own dorm or update changes in a building they may frequent.”
Minecraft players can access the model via the server address 51.68.204.36:25610. Cheney created a YouTube video with instructions for how they can access the server.
Man eats at 18 Michelin-starred restaurants in 24 hours
A New York foodie broke a Guinness World Record by dining at 18 Michelin-starred restaurants in 24 hours. A Discord group Eric Finkelstein joined about city restaurants brought his attention to the Guinness World Record for most Michelin-starred restaurants visited in 24 hours.
“I loved the idea,” Finkelstein told Guinness World Records. “It combined my love of eating interesting food, working towards a checklist, and working towards something silly.” The attempt took months of planning and working to align reservations. The food fan started his attempt at Le Pavillon in Midtown and ended at Sushi bar Noda, spending $494 on food, not counting tax or tips. He estimated that the attempt caused him to consume about 5,000 calories in one day.
