KOHAT: The price of a 20-kilogram wheat flour bag has topped Rs3,000 in Kohat.

A flour dealer, Farrukh, told Dawn that a 20kg flour bag in Kohat was available at Rs3,050.

Owner of a mill, Mr Javed, said wheat of Sindh was of poor quality as it was affected by floods. He said they had to meet their demand by purchasing wheat from Peshawar.

He said all the mills were faced with acute shortage of commodity and forced to sell flour at Rs150 per kg. He said earlier the rate was high due to ban on transportation of wheat and flour from Punjab.

KILLED: A young man was killed and his two colleagues were injured when gunmen ambushed a car at Kacha Pakha square on Saturday night.

The police quoting witnesses said Shah Sawar was killed and Mohammad Riaz and Mohammad Bilal were seriously injured during the firing incident.

The injured and the deceased were shifted to the KDA Teaching Hospital. Relatives of the victims nominated Idrees and Haneef in the FIR.

The police said the two families had a murder dispute.

PROTEST: Civil society activists on Sunday protested against the police for lodging an FIR against a former Pakistan Air Force official and putting him in lock-up at the behest of a Peshawar Electric Supply Company sub-divisional officer.

They said the ex-PAF officer had been punished for complaining about a hefty bill sent to him by Pesco.

They said they had met the SP operations and urged him to quash the FIR. They said the police officer admitted injustice had been done but he could not do anything in the case.

Speaking at a protest meeting, Muttahida Ulema Council chief Maulana Shah Nawaz, chairman of Sons of Kohat Shah Mehmood, and Malik Dilawar Khan of Karwan-i-Kohat, demanded the arrest of SDO Asadullah.

They said the PAF former official said he had gone to the relevant police station for registration of FIR against the Pesco SDO, but a sub-inspector filed a case against him on receiving a telephone call from the SDO.

SDO Asadullah alleged the PAF former official was involved in power theft as he failed to fix the faulty meter.
