HARIPUR: Chairmen of different village and neighbourhood councils from across the city here on Tuesday held a protest rally against food inflation.
The procession started from the tehsil council building and ended at the DC office. The participants chanted slogans against the rising prices of flour and other essential commodities.
They condemned the unavailability of subsidised wheat flour at the designated sale points and attributed it to the poor management of the food department.
The protesting chairmen also held a meeting with additional deputy commissioner Imran Jadoon at the DC office and stressed the need for proactive role of the local administration in controlling hoarding of flour and other dailyuse items.
The ADC told the protesters that the provincial government had increased the wheat quota of all the districts, including Haripur, and the arrival of new consignment would be enough to meet the requirement of local population.
