RAWALPINDI: A man was killed in a shootout between police and members of a land mafia while another was murdered in his house, police said on Tuesday.

In the first incident, a shootout between police and members of a land mafia during a search operation left one person dead and two injured in Chakri on Tuesday.

Police arrested two suspects and seized a large quantity of weapons during the crackdown. According to police, the clash started when a search operation was launched against the land mafia. The suspects fired gunshots at the police party.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Saddar Division Mohammad Nabil Khokhar, elite force commandos and a contingent of district police were present on the spot as crackdown against the suspects was underway till the filing of this report.

Police said a first information report (FIR) was being registered against the suspect while the injured arrested by police were shifted to the hospital.

In another incident, a man was murdered in his house in New Katarian on Monday night.

Ibrar Ahmad, brother of the deceased, lodged a first information report (FIR) with New Town police saying that his brother’s wife, after a quarrel, left her husband and went back to her parents’ house. On Monday night, he said she called his (her husband’s) brother Rafaqat, telling him that he was not breathing.

He said that after receiving the telephone call, they went to his brother’s house and discovered Shafat lying on the floor and bleeding from the head.

He further said in the FIR that his brother’s wife was also present in the house but has still not revealed any details about how the incident happened.

Police said the body was handed over to his family after postmortem and investigation launched to ascertain the real circumstances in which the man was murdered.
