KARACHI: Two minor siblings were drowned and believed to have died in sea at Manora, police and rescue services said on Thursday.
Mauripur police SHO Ghulam Husain Korai said that a man threw his sons into sea at Manora on Wednesday evening, and then attempted suicide by jumping into sea, but was rescued by the people. The police took the man into custody.
The officer said that Kashif Masih told the police that he is a resident of Essa Nagri. Kashif said he had developed ‘serious differences’ with his wife as she was allegedly having an affair with another man, which was why he attempted to commit suicide along with his children on Wednesday. The SHO said Kashif had remained a male nurse at the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH), but presently was a working at another private hospital.
Meanwhile, an Edhi Foundation spokesperson said their divers launched rescue efforts, and added that the children were aged between six to nine years.
Passenger minibus kills siblings in Clifton
A passenger mini-bus killed two siblings in Clifton while their father remained safe in the fateful accident on Thursday.
Boat Basin police SHO Naseer Tanoli said that two minibuses were involved in race while coming from Ziauddin Hospital towards Bilawal Chowrangi when one of the vehicles hit a bike. Consequently, Bushra, 18, and her younger brother, Huzaifa, 11, died on the spot while their father Adeel miraculously survived.
The father was taking his children to drop them at a seminary in the area when the tragedy struck them.
The deceased were residents of Keamari.
The police impounded both the minibuses and arrested a driver and conductor.
Woman run over by police van
A police vehicle coming from wrong side hit a motorbike, killing a woman on National Highway near Malir Halt on Thursday, according to police and rescue services.
They said that the Police Headquarters East’s truck hit the pillion rider couple while coming from wrong direction.
The woman in her 50s fell down from the motorcycle and the police van ran over her face, resulting in her instant death. The errant driver managed to escape from the spot.
The victim’s husband reportedly told media that he did not want legal proceedings.
“I am poor, I don’t want any legal proceedings against the police,” the deceased’s spouse told media.
