SUKKUR: Two constables of the excise police were killed in a head-on collision involving a passenger coach and a private coaster along the National Highway on Sunday. The accident also left five passengers of the coach injured.

Officials at the Tamachani police station of Sukkur district said the accident apparently took place due to poor visibility caused by thick fog in the morning hours.

It appeared that the constables, Akbar Ali Channa and Ali Ahmed Shah, came under the wheels of the coaster before it collided with the passenger coach. Five passengers of the coach were injured.

Edhi Foundation ambulances rushed to the spot and its volunteers retrieved the bodies from under the vehicle to transported them to the Sukkur Civil Hospital. They also rushed the injured passengers to the hospital for emergency treatment.

According to the police, the deceased policemen were sent to Karachi to join security duty for polling in the local government election on Sunday but were turned back as the Karachi police had already met the required number. The deceased policemen intended to travel to Shikarpur district.

Meanwhile, two men and a woman were killed and seven other women and children were injured in a collision between a speeding car and a passenger van on Indus Highway in Shikarpur district.
