KARACHI: A two-and-a-half-year-old girl drowned in a drain in New Karachi, police said on Monday.

Gabol Town SHO Imran Afridi said that Aleena Sabeel Shah fell in the nullah near Shafiq Mor on Sunday at around 4:45pm while playing with children near her home.

Edhi divers launched rescue search and recovered her body on Monday near Niazi Mohalla of Pak Colony near Garden. The body was shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi to fulfill legal formalities.

Man shot by robbers, dies

A young man shot at and injured by robbers died during treatment on Monday.

Baldia Town SHO Nawaz Gondal said that Abdul Waris, 28, was returning home after attending a marriage ceremony when armed pillion riders tried to snatch cash and other valuables from him near a traffic post, at Baldia 2 on Jan 8 around 4am. As he put up resistance, the robbers opened fire on him and fled without any loot. He suffered single-bullet injuries on his leg, which travelled and pierced through his abdomen. He was admitted at the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi where he succumbed to injuries on Monday.

The victim was said to be a movie maker of marriage ceremonies in Baldia.

Meanwhile, a body of a man aged around 20 years was recovered from sea in Ibrahim Hyderi on Monday, police said.

The police said that the drowned body was found floating in the sea near Ibrahim Hyderi.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre to ascertain exact cause of death.
