KHUZDAR: A Levies Force soldier was martyred and an officer got injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire on their vehicle near the Wali Khan bypass in Mastung district on Sunday.

Mastung Deputy Commissioner Yasir Iqbal Dashti said armed men opened fire when the Levies personnel reached at a petrol station near the Wali Khan bypass, where the assailants were looting.

In the exchange of fire, one soldier embraced martyrdom and a naib risaldar got injured, he told Dawn.

Levies officials rushed to the site and shifted the body and the injured soldier to Ghous Bakhsh Raisani Memorial Hospital. “Security forces have launched a search operation in the area to trace the armed men involved in the firing,” Assistant Commissioner Barkat Baloch said.
