DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A policeman was gunned down by unidentified assailants in the Mallah Khel area of Daraban tehsil of D.I. Khan, officials said on Tuesday.

The head constable, Gul Baran, embraced martyrdom after the attackers sprayed him with bullets while he was on his way home from a mosque, said police spokesman Syed Yaqoob Bukhari.

A heavy police contingent reached the site and cordoned off the area.

A search operation has been launched to trace the suspected attackers.

Just a week ago, a police patrol vehicle suffered slight damage after an improvised explosive device planted on the road went off in the area.
