SWABI: A policeman was injured when unidentified assailants hurled grenades on the Yar Hussain police station in Razaar tehsil on Friday evening, district police officer captain (retired) Najamul Hussain said.

It was the first attack on a police station in the district after increasing incidents of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province perpetrated by the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan militants, he added.

DPO Najam told this correspondent that two unidentified motorcyclists suddenly came close to Yar Hussain police station, threw two grenades on the policemen, and escaped.

As a result of the attack, a policeman identified as Qaim Khan was injured. He was shifted to the Bacha Khan Hospital Complex, Shahmansoor, he said.

Soon after the incident, the police launched a search operation in the area to trace the culprits.

DPO Najam said that other police personnel remained unhurt in the attack.

The DPO said that the district police had already tightened the security and were ready to deal with any eventuality.

No one had claimed the responsibility for the attack till filing of this report at 9.45pm.
