ISLAMABAD: The capital police received hundreds of written and verbal requests and recommendations from influential people to induct their men on the posts of constable for which the recruitment process is underway, Dawn has learnt.

Officials of the capital police told Dawn that 1,685 vacant posts of constables were being filled and thousands of youth from across the country had applied for them.

Politicians, bureaucrats and other influential people were among those approaching the police for appointment of their men in the force.

A special assistant to the prime minister (SAPM) was also among those who tried to influence the police to induct 29 applicants. Out of the 29, as many as 21 had KP’s domiciles, five were from Islamabad and one each from Punjab and Balochistan.

In his two separate letters “Appointment as constable in ICT police” addressed to the inspector general, the SAPM said: “The following persons are recommend for appointment on the post of constables (BPS-7) in Islamabad Capital Territory Police. I shall be grateful if their candidature is considered for appointment,” it added.

The capital police advertised 1,685 posts of constable after one and a half decade and received over 148,000 applications.

A recruitment board under chairmanship of DIG Awais Ahmed and a recruitment committee headed by SSP Dr Khuram Rasheed were constituted.

After scrutiny, 110,000 applications were approved for physical tests and only 26,000 applicants passed it.

The officials said that in the written tests 50 per cent marks were for objective and 50pc for subjective questions. Out of the total, 8,800 succeeded in the written test conducted at Sports Complex. The papers were checked by students of universities.

The successful candidates were now being called for interview. The interview process is likely to be completed next week after which a merit list will be displayed.
