CHARSADDA: Minister Khushdil Khan on Wednesday said terrorist attacks won’t be able to demoralise police, which would continue striving for peace in the province.

“The KP police’s morale is very high and the Peshawar like terror attacks won’t affect it,” the minister told reporters at the police lines here.

Mr Khushdil said the caretaker government would ensure a peaceful environment for free and fair elections in the province.

“We [government] have begun preparing for transparent elections in the province,” he said. The minister said polls would take place on time.

He said it was the responsibility of the government to provide a peaceful environment to the people during the elections for which practical measures were being taken with the support of the police and the people.

Mr Khushdil said Islam taught peace and tolerance to its followers and that Islamic scholars should motivate people to fight terrorism.

He said a transparent investigation had been launched into the Peshawar suicide bombing incident and the government would make its findings public.

He said politicians, religious scholars and teachers should play their due role for the elimination of terrorism.

“It is the responsibility of all of us to fight extremism and terrorism,” he said.

WARNING: Residents of the Old Bazaar-i-Mohallah Kashmirian, including women, warned that they would stage a sit-in outside the deputy commissioner’s office against the frequent gas outages.

A delegation of residents led by Javed Khan met the deputy commissioner and informed him about gas outages.

They demanded smooth gas supply and said if the demand wasn’t met, the people would take to the streets.

INAUGURATED: A literacy centre was inaugurated for uneducated prisoners in the sub-jail here on Wednesday with the support of the National Commission for Human Development.

Deputy commissioner Dr Qasim Ali Khan visited the centre, which, he said, will offer skill development courses to prisoners to earn livelihoods for themselves and families after release.

He also went to various barracks of the sub-jail, examined facilities and expressed satisfaction about them.
