BAJAUR: A woman and her son were injured in a landmine explosion in Salarzai tehsil of Bajaur tribal district on Saturday morning, police and Rescue 1122 officials said.

“The incident occurred in Thangi Srasha area when an explosive device, said to be an anti-personal mine planted in a field of a local elder, Malik Mursaleen Khan, went off at around 8am,” DSP Abdul Sattar Khan said.

Talking to reporters after visiting the blast site, he said a woman and her son were going to fetch water when they stepped over the mine planted by some miscreants.

A Rescue 1122 official said both the injured, identified as wife of Jan Sardar and her son, Abdullah, 15, were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Khar, by a team of rescuers.

The official quoting the doctors at the hospital said their condition was out of danger.

Another senior police official told Dawn that they had launched investigation into the incident. He said officials of both the police and Counter-Terrorism Department had also visited the crime scene to collect the evidence.

Meanwhile, the authorities on Saturday launched a crackdown on vehicles with tinted glass.

According to a statement issued by the district administration, the action was launched on the directives of deputy commissioner Fahad Wazir.

The statement said action against the vehicles with tinted glass was meant to maintain law and order in the district as there were reports that miscreants and other anti-peace elements could use such vehicles for terror activities in the region.

It added that tinted glass from scores of vehicles was removed in different areas of the district.
