ABBOTTABAD: A special ceremony was held here on Monday to celebrate the confirmation of Peshawar High Court additional judge Justice Kamran Hayat Miankhel as a permanent judge.

Justice Miankhel thanked participants at the PHC Abbottabad Circuit Bench’s building here for honouring him and said he would strive to bring the bench and bar closer.

He said during the one-year stay in Abbottabad as the additional judge, he learned a lot from senior lawyers about the Constitution and the law.

“It [confirmation] is a happy moment for me,” he said.

PHC senior judge Justice Waqar Ahmad, who was also in attendance, said like others, he learned a lot during Abbottabad posting.

“We [judges] always try to make decisions in line with the law and the Constitution. It’s a matter of great pleasure and satisfaction to see the lawyers support us at all levels,” he said.

Justice Ahmad said Justice Miankhel deserved confirmation as a permanent judge.

He said intelligence was not enough for success and instead, lawyers needed good goals and intentions, too, to move forward.

Meanwhile, a farewell reception was held for outgoing vice-chairman of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council Mohammad Ali Khan Jadoon.

Mr Jadoon said during his two-year term as the council office-bearer, he had got a mobile app developed for the payment of fees by lawyers and issuance of cards to them.

He said work on a housing society for lawyers was also under way and it would be completed soon.

High Court Bar Association president Mehdi Zaman Khan said the trust of clients was key to the success of lawyers.

PHC additional registrar Justice Fazal Subhan, the deputy attorney general, assistant advocate general, sessions judges, senior and civil judges, and members of the Pakistan Bar Council and Abbottabad, Haripur, Mansehra, Battagram and Balakot bar associations were also in attendance.

Lawyers attended the event in large numbers and the district bar presidents were among them.
