KOHAT: A notorious drug dealer wanted by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police was arrested in injured condition after an exchange of fire with the police here on Wednesday.

The police also recovered drugs, weapons and grenades during search of his house.

A team led by DSP city Saadat Khan and SHO Cantonment Islamuddin, acting on a tip-off about presence of the drug dealer, Latif Khan, in Nasratkhel area, surrounded his hideout.

The drug mafia’s leader was asked to surrender, but he opened fire at the police party. The police retaliated, and an exchange of fire continued for some time, during which the outlaw was injured. He was shifted to the KDA hospital.

The drug trafficker used to engage youth in selling drugs. He had been declared a proclaimed offender by courts for drug smuggling and other multiple criminal offenses.

TRAFFIC SENSE: Chief traffic warden Faheemullah Bangash, while speaking at a radio programme, termed the reasons behind heavy challans as enforcing laws, inculcating traffic sense among the drivers, and not generating revenue.

He was speaking at the ‘voice of people’ programme of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Radio, Kohat, on Wednesday.

He also said dilapidated and narrow roads had made traffic congestion grave, adding work on widening of the main artery’s King Gate section would start soon.

Mr Bangash said 90 per cent of the problems of one-wheeling and underage driving had been contained.

He appealed to the parents not to give vehicles to their small children as it caused accidents, resulting in deaths and injuries on roads.

He advised drivers to wear seatbelts, avoid over-speeding and use helmets while driving motorcycles.
