KARACHI: The Association of Electronic Media Editors and News Directors (AEMEND), in a meeting held in Lahore on Thursday, raised concerns over the hurdles and challenges faced by journalists and mediapersons across the country.

The meeting, chaired by AEMEND President Azhar Abbas, was also attended by stakeholders from Karachi, Peshawar, Lahore, and Islamabad.

In the meeting, AEMEND demanded the federal government roll back the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca) and asked to take stakeholders into confidence before making any amendments to media laws, according to a statement.

While condemning notices issued by Pemra to news channels, the association also decided to initiate legal proceedings against the regulator. It was also decided that an AEMEND delegation will meet the Pemra chairman to discuss the issue. The association also lauded the implementation of the Journalist Protection Bill in Sindh.

Keeping in view the skyrocketing inflation in the country, the association also demanded increments in the wages of journalists and people from the media fraternity.
